[NLRS] DC power to remote transveters

I am considering placing some transverters at the top of my tower to reduce
feedline loss. On transmit, the power requirement is about 250 watts, or
say 20 to 25 amps at 12vdc. I'm thinking about running low voltage AC up the
tower .... say 48 volts ? .... and then transform it down, rectify & regulate
to 13.8vdc at the top of the tower. The theory is that by running low
voltage AC its safer and the current carrying requirements for the wire going up
the tower are reduced.
Anyone done something like this ? For those who remote mount higher power
transverters or amps, how are you getting DC power to them ?
