[NLRS] Liason option?

Guys, I know that I am out of the "main stream" when it comes to the
NS/UP 10Ghz activity. So bear with me ... It seems that there is a large
enough group of "independent random stations" wanting to work the UP
and/or the NS groups that a additional liason approach might be helpful.
For discussion .... What about an independent 2m operation on the UP,
maybe at Mt Brockway for the the entire weekend? That station/person
might be a person not active on 10Ghz, but looking for a "good time" on
the radio. Perhaps equipped for 1296Mhz and other bands that people are
interested in exploring. Good antennas and power.
This person could be a "clearing house" for all activity on Lake Superior. It
would NOT be necessary to communicate through him/her, but he/she
would be VERY aware of activity and conditions. From Mt Brockway, it
would be an easy shot to all points on the lake. The independents then
would have a common information source both days, not time constrained
by 10Ghz operation. Good location for a 10Ghz beacon??
I can't help but think such a station would have made a huge difference for
everyone envolved in this past weekend. That person would have been able
to inform all of the progress of the NS group, conditions (radio and weather),
frequency, the dropping of the second freq .......... etc We were at a real
loss on Sunday, not having a clue as to the WX anywhere other than Wawa
and I came close to delaying my departure. It would have been GREAT to
warn someone, anyone that I was headed for Marathon. That location had
not been surveyed yet, but we know now. I bet I could have worked the
entire NS/UP group that were running Sunday from Marathon.
Jim and I would sure liked to have had a way to coordinate with the NS
group and KRP/MA while the UP was running with the south shore Sat
night.
I have the feeling that some consider us "independents" a pain, sorry if
that is the case, but I UNDERSTAND that to some, big scores are what
make the activity for you. I DO understand.
So ..... From the viewpoint of NS and UP operators as well as
independents, what do you think?
Jim bought a phone card for the trip and ended up transferred to voice
mailboxs or no answers more than not. 40 meters was fine parts of the day,
but QRM and line noise was very bad at times. Bruce had a GREAT signal
into my mobile at the overlook from Mt Brockway and VERY usable from
Great Sand Bay.
THANK YOU Bruce for your help, with the 2m liason you provided
between your 10Ghz Qs you saved the weekend for many!
With a year lead time maybe someone could be found. Does the Mt
Brockway location "lend" itself to such an operation?
