Inside the head its incredibly tiny and delicate. Likely the blocking
capacitor is mounted on the connecter then the rest of the tender
thermistor parts are built on behind. Remember its good to as high as the
connector, better than 10 GHz. The odds of changing the coupling
capacitor and making to work are essentially zero without the factory
repair parts, jigs, and tools. Build a good blocking capacitor adapter and
use that while shopping for another 8748.
I'm wondering if there's a solder blob shorting that input capacitor. I can't
conceive of any way to blow it shorted and still have thermistors.
