Hi All

Jim KB0CIM took my Qualcomm 10Ghz transverter / 500MW PA combo
today and we worked several paths to my DEM / 900MW Qualcomm PA
combo. Both systems are running with 18" offset DSS dishes.

Contact #1 17:31Z 5-9+40 SSB --- EN37-EN37 path distance 1/2mile
LOS. Verify freq and operation...

Attempt #2 17:51Z --> 18:55Z  EN37ed -- EN36ex  path distance 11 miles
with several ridges at 150ft above boths operating locations. Mostly forest
path. We each heard the other. I copied Jim weakly several times on SSB
and had Calls and Grid. Jim heard me beacon once 100% for 20sec or so
and perhaps other times. No contact, "conditions" were never there the
same time for both of us.

Contact #2 19:13Z EN37-EN37 path distance (reflection path) about 4
miles off of an island north of me about 2miles. Signals 5-9+ SSB and peak
VERY sharp off the island.

Contact #3 19:37 EN37-EN37 path distance (reflection path) about
14miles off of the Minnesota Power Clay Boswell Generation Plant. Non-
obstructed shot on both ends. SSB Signals 5-9 plus a bit. Again very sharp
off of the power plant.

Contact #4 19:43 EN37-EN37 path distance (reflection path) about
14miles off of the Minnesota Power Clay Boswell Generation Plant. None
obstructed shot on one end and a thin treeline at about 200yards on my
end. SSB Signals 5-5 plus a bit. Again very sharp off of the power plant.

Signals were almost exactly the same on both ends of the paths. I am
VERY pleased with the way the Qualcomm systems hears .

So ... I have my own grid worked anyway. Earlier beacon test to EN36ex
verified that the path is workable, today conditions just did not allow.
Bummer! I sure have to beat the leaves to do it.

With all the forest ... paths that look promising are very limited
portable/portable. We know more than we did before the day began!

---------------

I will be operating the 2m Sprint from EM39ka (abt 70 miles east of Kansas
City MO) I will also have 10Ghz with me looking for spring rain scatter in any
direction. Phone contact 660-859-2568 or my normal e-mail address. I'll be
there one week and will be mobile on 144.200 tomorrow as we travel south
from EN37ed to EM39ka ... trip time about 12 hrs and I will be departing
about 6am local in the morning (Sunday 4/4/04) ..... watch for us horizontal
SSB.
