I want to thank everyone for the ideas they sent me.  I now have
a number of theories to try out, and a few things I hadn't considered
to eliminate as problems.  And thanks for the offers of help, I may
be taking some of you up on them.

I'll try to work on this a bit in the next week, and I might respond
to particular emails as I work through all the suggestions.
