Hello all,
This morning I was reading through some VHF/UHF designs in the ARRL
Antenna Book (18th ed). I came across their page on trough reflectors,
and thought they looked interesting.
However, the dimensions listed seemed almost ridiculously large to me.
Thus I'm looking for confirmation that these numbers are correct (which
would rule them out as a practical design).
Here's a rough ASCII diagram:
/ ^
/ |
/ |
/ |
^ | |
q | | o | A
v | |
\ |
\ |
\ |
\ v
The book lists the dimensions in inches of "q" and "A" (omitting others
for the sake of brevity) as:
Band A q
432 120 50
1296 45 9.5
In other words, this thing is about 10 feet tall on 432, or about 4 feet
tall on 1296. That seems a bit out-of-whack to me, but then again I've
never seen one of these in use, so I have nothing to compare it to.
Considering the book talks about folding them up (by installing hinges)
for transit, I've got to think there is some sort of misprint, that
perhaps the dimensions are really in centimeters or such.
Anyway, can any of you confirm or lay aside my doubts as to the correctness
of these dimensions?
Thanks,
Brent
