I use the Garmin GPS 12. It works great and fits my KISS principle
in that it is really simple. Must not need external antenna (never
though about it..) and does 6 digit maidenhead which was one of my
early requirements too. The cost is in the $140 range - since it has
been there for this many years I would expect it too be dropping
soon? (That's what I paid for it new). Only thing on the down side
is that the back light goes off usually too soon and the AA batts
don't quite last the 24 hours as was stated in the book. Otherwise
it just works. (Don't really need one anymore on the usual routes -
but bring it any way). Bought the ACC adapter (aka cigarette lighter
plug) but never use it (another cable not needed in the rover -) Do
see them come up on ebay too as well as the accessories - might be a
deal out there - Good luck on the search Jon!
