Hi Jon,
I started out years ago with a Garmin III and was pretty happy with it,
it lived much of it's life velcroed to my dash. It had the computer
interface and lighter adapter port on the back and worked well. Alas,
it was stolden out of my car last summer. I replaced it with a Garmin
76s. It has the features of the Vista with a little larger screen and
an antenna connector on the back. Without the external antenna it has
the usual sensitivity and receiving 3-5 sat's is typical. With the
external antenna connected it's amazing, I never get less than 8 sat's
usually at almost full strength. It reports an error of less than 10
feet much of the time (this is with WASS). It was expensive, almost
$500, but I love how it works.
Just some thoughts
Mike
