To all interested in a Lake Superior 10Gig Trip:
I'm not speaking for Gary.....
I know Gary tried to have a discussion of this back in January? in order to
get all of us Minnesota 10Giggers to start thinking about what we want to do
and build a consensus. I thought at least four people had agreed that the
August weekend was the clear choice for a Lake Superior effort--I know
that's what I've been planning since the first round of discussion. If
there is a reason NOT to do it on the August weekend--we need to have that
brought out into the open for discussion NOW. Let's build a consensus of
greater than four.
Look, a trip up north can be a lot of work, but it also can be a lot of fun.
It also can yield big scores. Trust me--it can be fun! What I think would
be perfect would be a two-day effort. If enough others would also be
willing to make that kind of effort, then they can start to budget for a
one-night motel stay NOW rather than back out of the weekend trip THEN
citing that as the stumbling block.
There is a good chance that there will be a few "loaner" rigs available by
that time. There is already verbal committment from one Chicago area
10Gigger to participate and vague maybe's from two more. Using just round
numbers--if 80% of the Minnesota 10Giggers took part in this, there would be
at least 6 stations on each side. It could get better than that if we make
a GOOD effort
We do NEED to hash this out now and get differing opinions out in the open
now so that no false expectations will be formed.
Who would NOT participate in a two-day effort because it's a two day effort?
Who would only go play on Lake Superior if it were a one-day effort? Take a
look at your calenders folks--August 16-17. If you have interest in
operating on the Keeweenaw/Copper Harbor end, plan on traveling on the 15th.
If the two day event happens, you will arrive back in the Cities LATE on
Sunday night.
Some action items that come to mind are:
Designating the first 15 spots that we would try on the North Shore moving
Northward. Do some preliminary studies of paths to the 2 or 3 Copper Harbor
spots.
Look at Motel options at the anticipated North End of operations and get
some quotes. Same for the Copper Harbor end.
Ponder the kinds of things that should be brought along on the trip like
First Aid kits, etc and build a checklist of those items so that we know
each end has them.
What are some other action items that you can anticipate?
Once we get a listing of those who are willing to make a committment to this
effort, should we use the NLRS reflector for chatter or just build a cc:
list for those who are players? I will gladly take this discussion off the
reflector to just the interested 10Giggers--once that is determined. I will
probably troll in a separate posting about who would be interested in being
on a separate Lake Superior 10Gig Trip distribution.
What are your thoughts?
