John,
I spend almost all of my time on my Icom756 with my narrow filters enabled.
For ssb I have the 1.9 and the 2.8 filters. The 1.9 filter is great. Do not
go much narrower than 1.8 or 1.9 or you will not be able to understand the
conversation. The 1.9 provides very crisp audio. I rarely use the 2.8 filter
any more.
Off the top of my head I am not sure how narrow my CW filter is..... if you
go too narrow you will have a hard time finding the qso as you will tune
right past them.
