At this mornings NLRS breakfast there was some informal discussion around the
boardband over powerline (BPL) issue. For those who may be unfamiliar with
BPL check out the situation at the ARRLs website at
http://www.remote.arrl.org/news/features/2003/07/08/1/?nc=1 .
As a club interested in weak signal VHF work BPL has the potential to impact
us (in a negative way), and it seems appropriate to throw our support behind
the League. Given the importance of this issue, and given that our business
meeting is held only once a year, with the clubs support I am going to "bend"
our club bylaws a bit and conduct formal club business over the Internet.
This morning Gary, W0GHZ, made a motion that the NLRS should donate $100 to
the ARRL BPL defense fund. The motion was seconded by John, K0FQA. We have
approximately $850 dollars in our club fund.
For NLRS members in good standing (ie; dues paid), PLEASE SEND ME YOUR VOTE
on this motion. Send me your vote direct in order to avoid excessive traffic
on the reflector. If you have discussion around this motion by all means use
the reflector to express it. I will check with Rich to see what our current
membership numbers are .... we need a simple majority of a quorum and for
definition of a quorum I will go with what Rich tells me is our club membership
rather than the 1/3 of current members definition ... this should make the
criteria a bit more stringent that should offset the lack of a "public" meeting.
Please send me your vote. I will report on the results.
