One other interesting observation on the rain scatter. When listening to
W9FZ's CW beacon, the overall audio pitch of his aurora like signal would
rise by several hundred hertz when I tipped my dish up by around 5 degrees
....... I could "tune" his overall signal pitch by raising or lowering my
dish several degrees. I assume that this was caused by variation in the
direction and/or speed of the rain scatter media with height; ie, different
Doppler.
>From the ARRLs website on VHF dx records at

10 GHz rain scatter records. The distances are in kilometers so in miles
they are 458, 379, and 319 miles respectively.
