Hi all,
There was a small group out working the microwave bands
this weekend.
On Saturday, Jon, K0FQA, went to the Elk River site. Gary, W0GHZ,
was at home first and later at Mounds Park. Bob, W0AUS,
started at home off his dock. Then went to the Capital Overlook,
and finally to Mounds Park. Jon, W0ZQ, was on from home. Lenny,
K0SHF, was across the freeway from Ridgeway park. Then later from
home. Mike, KM0T, was portable in Ramsey. Gary, WB0LJC,
was on the air from Burnsville. Glenn, KC0IYT, came to
Burnsville to observe and make his first 10G contact.
Almost everyone worked each other at least once. Mike was heard
and worked by Jon, K0FQA, and maybe by someone else, but I,
don't recall any him completing any other contacts. Jon, ZQ, and
I did make a tree scatter contact.
Most interesting was the 24 GHz activity by Bob and Donn.
Bob started at the Capital Overlook and worked Donn with
excellent signals at Mounds park. They did try some building
bounce off of the St Paul buildings and found they could bounce
off of just one building. They will have to fill in the details.
Next, Bob moved to Mounds Park and Donn went to the Idell Ave site
near Hastings. This is about a 15 mile path. Again signals were
good. Bob said they had no trouble making contact. Next Donn
moved to the New Trier site for more 24 Ghz. 10 GHz was used
as liaison. Bob heard Donn's signals with good copy on the
peak. Donn said he never heard anything from Bob. They are both
using DB6NT transverters. Donn has a 12' dish and Bob is using
a 9" dish. Lenny, Gary, Glenn and I were there to observe the
activity and heard Donn as well. Donn and Bob tried to
bounce their 24G signals off the Minneapolis buildings without
success. Nothing was heard either way.
Sunday we were hoping to work some rain scatter. Unfortunately
nothing developed for us to use. We did work some familiar
paths. Donn was at Ridgeway, Bob was on from his deck, Gary, GHZ,
was on from home, Lenny from the street near his house, Bruce,
W9FZ, from his balcony, Jon, W0ZQ, from a site he has found in
Burnsville and I was with Lenny. Nothing really exciting worked.
Bruce did prove out his new system. There were some tree scatter
paths worked by pointing up into the tree canopy. Good signals
over the short paths.
Look for us next weekend. I'm sure we will try to put out some 10 and
24 GHz RF.
Don't forget the breakfast Saturday the 12th. Old Country buffet in
Richfield.
73, Gary WB0LJC
