Well the contest was good & bad for me. My goal was to better my prior
January scores, and I didn't come close to that. My other goal was to add
to my 6M grid count. I got the 6M helical filter in place the night before,
but didn't really have much testing opprotunity (other than to observe that
the background noise S level is down - hopefully that is some filtering, not
just loss!).
The main culprit on my score was having my 432 station go down at about
0200Z the first evening, when I still had only two grids on 432.
Investigation of the 432 brick not kicking in led to the discovery that the
pre-amp on the tower was not being switched correctly either, which
explained why I was a bit more deaf than usual on 432. With both a pre-amp
problem and a brick problem - I wrote off 432 for the rest of the contest.
The highlight was completing at 6M sked with W2FU in FN13 (at 1000Z) on
FSK441 meteor scatter. It took the ENTIRE 30 minutes to complete, but it
worked! I think they were running a KW - that helps :-)
When the contest started dragging on Sunday, and since my score goal wasn't
going to happen without 70c I kind of lost interest. As a result I was in
and out, and totally missed the 6M opening. Arrrghh!
