Bill:
He has had rig problems on HF with his IC-706, but is now
using a tube rig that he had left up north. I have worked
him on 7268 days and nights, but QRM is fierce after 6:00
PM. 3958 has not been effective so far for other than with
cw.
Had AU last Friday night and heard him on 50125 cw. He
heard me (cw) and Scott VA3EWT (ssb) ok, but not strong
enough to QSO. None of the other AU beacons were heard here
(Duluth, Park Rapids, Hettinger, Austin) so it wasn't much
of an opening for us in Winnipeg, but he worked KL7NO 5-9
plus and was heard in NWO, AB and SK. His IC-706 is OK on
VHF/UHF.
The G5RV he took with him doesn't seem to be much of an
improvement over the Hustler, even on 75m - so far. He is
listening on the hour on 7268, from late morning to late
afternoon and then from 7PM CST onward to well past
midnight. Not likely to listen 3958 much unless it
improves.
Regards,
Bill VE4UD
