[NLRS] Deafness on 6M

Thanks Phil, these were the filters that I was trying to think of. I'=
ve
used the 2m ICE filter before. As I recall, these are circuit L/C
sections, so the bandpass performance is not on par with a cavity like
those made by DCI. On the other hand, the price ($35) is much more
attractive than the custom 6m cavity from DCI (is it $235 ?) and it may=
 be
adequate. I would suggest the narrow band (50.0 to 50.5) Model 412 ra=
ther
than the wide band (50.0 to 54.0) Model 412W, just remember about the
filter before you try 6m FM above 50.5. A homebrew cavity may also b=
e
the way to go .... fun with filters.

John,

The ICE filters are fairly inexpensive ($35) and very small. I have a
number of them I use to minimize inter station interference at field da=
y.
They sell both a wide and narrow version for 6m. These filters are only=

rated at around 200 watts and I have heard tell of failures on the HF
models. You can order them from www.arraysolutions.com

The other option is a filter from DCI. These are larger and MUCH higher=

priced. They likely have slightly lower losses and better out of band
attenuation. These are also low power models too. I have a DCI filter
for 440MHz and it is an amazing piece of equipment. I used to use it
on a 70cm FM radio here at home. My antenna is about 1/2 mile east of
a commercial paging antenna. With the squelch full up and the preamp
in the radio disabled I had almost constant squawks breaking squelch!
With the filter in place and the preamp on I set squelch at the ragged
edge and have NEVER heard a squawk! I have never noticed any attenuatio=
n
issues with the filter unless I try to listen to public service (which
I can't hear at all!).
