And it should be noted that Rich placed 5th in the nation in the SO
portable category .... they even got his call right too, an added bonus.

Overall, based on the Leagues write up, log submissions across the nation
were up over last year by better than 20%. The number of logs submitted
for the SOLP, rover, and SO portable categories were all up reflective of
the overall growth in VHF activity.

>From a club perspective, the NLRS submitted 21 logs which was third best in
the Nation with only PVRC (n=23) and SMC (n=24) with higher numbers. Both
the PVRC and SMC are VERY large HF based contesting clubs.

One of our goals as a VHF club is to generate activity and to submit logs
(whether your score is big or small). For the June'02 contest, without
a large multiop or two to lead the way in club scoring year, our clubs
overall 5th place finish nationally is based on the great score from Mike,
KM0T, and all those other 20 logs that were submitted. Congratulations to
the NLRS for a great job.

Can't let things go by with a tip of the hat to the Badger Contests who
also chipped in another 12 logs and had a good showing nationally.

For Minnesota, KT8O took top honors for the SOLP class, in the SOHB class
W0XG squeaked by perennial winner W0GHZ who placed second, N0HJZ took the
SO portable class, N0IM placed first in the limited mutli class and there
was no unlimited multi. Gene, N0DQS, placed first in the Midwest region
for /R.

For those who are interested in such things, the ARRL website write-up also
contains two pro/con sidebar articles ; one on the use of captive rovers
and one on grid circling.

73, Jon
W0ZQ.
