   Hello all,
I agree with Mark. We do need to use the SSB portion of the UHF, VHF bands.
 t is a proven fact
that if we remain silent on our "bands" the spectrum could go up for grabs
to the highest bidder. The FCC is seeing more and more pressure from
commercial interests to fill up the vacant holes in the RF spectrum. If you
think our bands are safe from ever being taken away from us you are saddly
mistaken !! As for contesting being an activity, yes it is, just like
field
day. (Only a couple more times a year) Do you "contesters" think that this
is enough "activity" to make our bands sound like they are being used when
a
commercial interest listens in? Think about it.
As far as SOME contesters attitudes and operating practices, well ,
that's why I have hung up the mic durring contests. I will however try to
make noise on the bands the other 361 days a year.
I also wanted to note that alot of the respondents to this thread are
only heard durring contests. You took the time to read the thread and
respond to it ( myself included) It seems that you have time just about
everyday to fire up the computer, why not fire up the dusty radio? you may
be missing an opening or QSO with someone you havent heard in a long time.
It's your loss, but it does'nt have to be !!!
          73s to all ,Jeff KA0ZYD
P.S. I want to say thanks for a good 2 hr round table on 2 meters last
Saturday night to KB0PYO, KA0AWU and everyone else that jumped in.
