You're right, of course, Geoff.  The GOES weather satellite transmits =
(WEFAX ?) on 1691.  I think there is also an LPY available for the =
hydrogen-alpha radio astronomy frequency (1460 MHz).  Never thought of =
those.

Need not necessarily be a ham band; loopers were/are, I believe, also =
made for bands inbetween 1296 and 2304 (e.g. 1691 MHz. which would about =
right for a 2.5" element).

On my way out of the house, I went down an measured the loops on my =
Rover LPYs: (wasn't dressed to go outside when I did my earlier post).

           902/903   1296    2304=20
Reflector  ~4.5"     ~3"    ~1.75"=20
Last=20
director   ~3.625"  ~2.25"  ~1.25"=20

Yours measures ~2.5", so I'd guess its a 1296 antenna.  Its would also =
be shorter than the ones I have (33 elelement): if its the last =
director, its larger in diameter, hence fewer elements.
