Hi All
Barry and I worked rain scatter again tonight off of a VERY nasty looking
system headed this way. We established contact at 02:02z and chatted until
02:15z. Modes operated with 5-8 signals, CW, SSB, FM. This was Barry's
first DX 10Ghz SSB contact. Signals were very stable with no QSB on this
end, but with considerable multipath. Barry was excellent copy on FM with
just a touch of "snap-crackel-pop". Antenna headings were direct and we
were "working through" three fingers of cells for about 50 miles or so.
Heading was more critical than elevation.
We have yet to hear rain scatter off of any path other than direct path here.
Barry and I did play a bit with me looking more northerly and him looking
more easterly, but that path was not present.
This looks to like it could be pretty bad, with all kinds of WX warnings until
2am. Depending upon it's passage and what is behind it. I may be available
later after it passes through. Watch Duluth radar and if a we have cells
between us and weather allows, I would be glad to run with anyone. Bruce
has called already and would be at the head of the list if it looks good.
