Congratulations on the 10 GHz rain scatter qso. When we talked at CS Bill I
did not think that your first qso would be 250 miles. How about that. We
should take advantage of the rain storms. Chicago and Kansas City are good
prospects for rain scatter.

Subject: [NLRS] Rain Scatter 10Ghz Contact
Hello All
Thank you Barry and GARY W0GHZ!! (I'm using Gary's portable 10Ghz
system)
Barry VE4MA and I ran 10Ghz off of a declining Thunderstorm north of
Bemidji with positive results. I heard Barry 5-2Au to 5-3Au ON THE METER!!
starting at17:02z. I heard every sequence but one. There were two different
cells and only missed one sequence when Barry changed cells. (different
heading). His freq was 8Khz higher than I expected. I was JUST able to see
the very tops of this cell complex above the trees at a sand-pit up on the
local mountain (450ft) higher.
Barry was SOLID copy with a "crisp" AU sound to the CW. It was
interesting that the heading was very sharp with elevation (on horizon) and
maybe 6deg or so wide with a good peak. We had no cell phone to
coordinate and were running a 20min sked. Barry first heard me 5-1A on
almost the last sequence and It was complete when I received "TNX 73" for
55 sec with both calls at the start from Barry.
Barry and I used the RST system of reports. .... After the fact, Barry was
wondering if indead this was the best report system or not ... maybe moon
bounce reporting system would be better with the the weak levels he was
dealing with. I was enjoying ARM CHAIR copy :>)) This was stronger than
the 1296 contacts with him from home 2miles away and down the mountain!!

Via rain scatter ..........
