Good Evening Again Gary,
I went out to one of our microwave sites tonight (rather impulsive...but you only live once)and hastily installed a FW brick running 50mw to a 12 GHz feedhorn up about 20 ft & 30 miles from home ......directly in the path of the Twin Cities and I can now confirm the bearing that I worked Jon on rain scatter was as far as I can determine directly on path . This probably explains whywe were successfull with such a minor storm.
Further to my EMail here at the end of May, I have been observing the airplane traffic over Winnipeg and I can conforim what appears to be a daily? (Sun, Mon (many) & Wed anyway) flight from the direction of the Twin Cities, that reaches Winnipeg at 9PM local time. It has extensive contrails and is headed into the NW ,probably destined for the orient. I have seen some intersting times where 3 airplanes are headed in the same direction but are separated in altitude and time wise (by 30 secs). This has only been seen once.
Gary I am proposing that we try a 1296 sked nightly on 1296.100 ...VE4MA even minutes W0GHZ odd minutes from 8:15 to 8:45 PM local time. If we can prove this path I am proposing that we QSY to 10 GHz with our tests. I have not sat down to figure out the Doppler shift on either bands....but it is probably very significant.
I believe these planes to be 747s or equivalent so the reflections should be as good as they get.!
Just to refresh your memory I was able to QSO with VE5LY who had 10W and a single 45 el loop, for 3 nights out of 5 on a little 737 flight destined to Winnipeg. He was in there for as long as 12 minutes !!!! so our tests might be very interesting.
Please confirm if you would like to start tomorrow monday Aug 11
