At Breakfast last Saturday, someone commented about the "look" from Flying
Cloud to the SE MN sites. I was out by there on Sunday, and stopped to
scout it out.
>From the plce where we've operated before (i.e., on the driveway to the
Flight Training school), you cannot see far enough east to to get to Red
Wing, Cannon Falls, etc., because of trees at ~100yds. Further south and
west should be OK.
HOWEVER, if you go across US212, there is an old wayside park right on the
edge of the bluff. You're past the trees, and have a good look from almost
E through just N of W. This covers all of the SE MN sites very nicely. The
shortest take off is 4 mi to the SSW. To the SE its almost 10 mi.
SE MN sites: St. Charles is 94 miles; Red Wing 49 mi; Vasa, 42 mi; and
Cannon Falls, 37 mi.
This site is 20+ miles from Mounds Park, and 17+ mi from the St. Anthony
site.
The only downside that I can see to the site is that its a WALK-IN SITE.
Maybe 30-40 yds. Minor price to pay.
