Hi All
Just got back from a one week Missouri trip last night.
Operated from my original QTH (1955-59) EM39ka. Missouri tropo is as
good as I remember, maybe better. Great bunch of guys and some SUPER
stations. Worked mostly 2 meter SSB. A few of the fellows: WR0F EM29,
N0SXW EM39, K0MQS EN31, AB0AX EM49, K0WYN EM38, N0JA
(WA0CHK) EM49, KB9Z EN60, WA0WPJ EM29, K9WYX EM38, K9IMX
EM38, W0RT EM27, N9RXM, EN41, K9IMX EM38, N0PB EM39
I took down the Icom 746Pro and a 2 meter halo. The halo at 30 ft worked
great, as long as the local "reading lamp" S9 QRN was not present. Great
signals. Can't wait to take a yagi down.
Interesting, several fellows were not familiar with NLRS and almost all
"promised" to look north more often :>))
I am sure many of you remember John Allen WA0CHK. John has had a
new call for about 15yrs N0JA and retired Aug 1. He is active again and has
lots of radio projects in the works. He was always loud when conditions were
up and I hope he will soon fill the white square in a sea of yellow on my 2
meter grid square map (EM49)!! He sounded happy and "fired up"!
Dropped in to see Dick K0MQS on the return trip ....... WOW!!!! He, his
wife and kids put that 150ft Rohn SSV up with a gin pole and tractor!!!! Great
location on the North Skunk River. The tower is IMPRESSIVE for miles! 4-
M^2 17 elem yagis at 150ft. The HCZ beacon is about S8 and the PUM
beacon readable midday. Sent us off by working a mobile 10miles north of
Milwaukee at 1pm with flat conditions.
