Your browser prbably call acroread from Adobe.  Try visiting
adobe's website and downloading a new version of acroread.   
If you are using netscape, you can hold the shift key down
and download the file and then try acroread later.   I bet
the registration for the pdf file type is screwed up.

Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but when my browser goes to the pdf link,
all I get is a little box with a red x in the upper left corner of the
window.  It won't download anything.
