Like most of the replies I have both M2 and directive systems
antennas. I love my 6MX5 which I picked up by chance from a silent
key estate. I knew nothing of the 6MX5 at the time but have been
extremely happy with it. The 6MX5 went together with no trouble. M2
uses a mass produced balanced feed (actually uses 75 ohm RG6 and "F"
connectors for the balun). This type of match is duplicated in the
144 and my 432 (9WL) antenna and is very simple and clean. You can
tell the folks at M2 know what to expect as they do not use all
stainless hardware (they combine ss nuts with galvanized u-bolts)
which gives me problems (ss on ss steel can seize) on my other
antennas. As for performance - during the June contest last year on
50MHz I worked 32 states and 64 grids QRP with the M2... I also
bagged HC8N last November from home with 8 watts into the M2 with 125
ft of 8X feedline (not the greatest setup..). Both M2 and Directive
systems use "keepers" for the element positioning on the 144 and
above designs - which some folks have trouble with. My opinion: both
are good choices - look at the weight/s and mounting arrangement/s
and get the best buy... dB gain and patterns are really similar.
Good luck on the project!
