We will be in EN50 at 1800Z. At the outset, we will be pointed NNW and N
from the four corners of EN50,52,60,61. At that point, please check 144.165
CW. We plan on one hour at the 4 corners, with most of the time in EN50.
WB9Z's big station is in EN60, about 10 miles from the four corners. Purdue
University is in EN60. They may be active and the multiop W9ICE(?) may also
be on from EN60. EN61 and 51 will be easier because of beaucoup activity.
Anyway, At 1900 we will head S to EM69/59. You will be off the back. We
will be running on 144.220, 222.120, 432.120. Six will be higher in the
band, I hope to be at 50.180 -- but a lot depends on condx and QRM. We
should arrive at EM69/59 about 2030, and will spend about 45 minutes in EM69.
We will run west through EM59, direction of travel not favoring latitudes
above 40 degrees. From time to time, we'll pop up an exit ramp on I 74, and
point in your direction. We will be concentrating on St.Louis and maybe the
gang around KC. We should enter EM49 around 2230 to 2245. We just cut the
NE corner of that grid, and we have a high spot. Look for us there at
144.220 and once again at 144.165. That should be a good grid. At 2330, it's
into EN40 where most of the time we'll run straight north. We should do well
into EN43,and maybe even into EN44,and 45. If that's where you are, we'll be
straight south of you. We'll hit EN41 around 0015Z. We may have stopped to
eat, but we will check lots of directions from the new grid. EN42 should
come up around 0145Z. We have a favorite spot east of Galena that works
really well for us into Wisconsin and Michigan. It's near the SE corner of
the grid. If we're pooped out, we will stop for the night, but will continue
to operate until we or the bands give out. We might get a chance for an
eyeball with K9AKS operating QRP portable from an observation tower in
Wisconsin. Sunday morning we should hit the SE corner of EN43. Figure
1600Z. Then east into EN53 at 1645. We will be running east, bopping into
EN52 and back into EN53 for a couple of hours. We will stick our nose into
EN63 around 2000Z.
Then it's south into EN62 to Mt.Trashmore. It favors N and NW, and we will
make a bunch of Chicago area Qs, and get across the lake and into Ohio.
We'll probably hang out there until we get chased out (it's a golf course)
and then get close to home where we operate hf contests from a park in EN51.
We will be concentrating on 6 meters, but will be checking 2 all of the time.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and "happy motoring" to all the other
rovers. Remember, ours is a "family station" so you get to work both of us.
See you Saturday! 73, Tim K0PG and Pat K9ILT/Rovair
