Sounds like we have some good reasons NOT to use WSJT for weak tropo (plus,
I got a not back from it's author that indeed the mode isn't really aimed at
weak tropo).

So the top alternatives are:

1 - JT43, issue - it's very early software at this point.  But - you might
be able to work moonbounce with it!

2 - Hellscrieber, in particular the single/multi tone variants.

BTW hell is German for 'light'.  Light writer.

Hey, I can switch to something else.  If it drives a soundcard I'm in
business.

What's the group consensus on a mode that would outperform SSB on weak
tropo?
