Thanks to Jules for investigating this.  The chain that locks the gate is required to have a Fireman’s lock in series with our normal locks.  This is obviously so the fireman don’t have to break the gate to get in when responding to an alarm.  All firemen carry a key.  A fireman was working at their museum on Wednesday and when he decided to go home, someone told him, “make sure you close and lock the gate”.  Well, he used his fireman’s key to lock the gate but miss rigged the chain so that it was in parallel with IA locks on the chain, not in series.  Fortunately, Gloria or someone upstairs had a fireman’s key and took care of it.
