[NJARC] Hurricane create Antimatter

I had mentioned once on the Tuesday Zoom get together about sprites that
appear above heavy thunderstorms and even create gamma rays and
anti-particles. Well I got one bit wrong: the positrons actually travel
earthward which means the electrons travel upward at relativistic speeds
which crash into other particles and create the gamma rays which starts the
whole cycle over again which is what we see in the sprite fountain.

The antimatter production is commonly seen in hurricanes however the
article says that they are more common than that and appear to some
capacity in any thunderstorm. The positrons can travel all the way down to
about 1.5km above sea level, which means that some high altitude
communities are more subject to contact, although not in any lethal
concentration; however it does mean that pilots should avoid flying through
thunderstorms to avoid the cumulative effects of a lifetime of dosing as
well as all the other problems presented while flying through a
thunderstorm.
