Read about the heros who handled the sinking and rescue of the passengers.  Attached

Thomas Appleby was able to copy the relayed messages all the way in Philadelphia without (and he never mentioned) amateur radio interference.


Commercial and Navy operators commented around that time about hams interfering, but mostly they considered hams "Deplorables", not equal to themselves.  (Many hams were better operators than the so-called commercial/Navy operators.) And in 1912 there were not that many hams on the air, and most of them had small signals which only went short distances, typically less than one mile.
