Now I understand why I didn't understand it in school (Philadelphia 
Wireless Tech. Inst.) 50+ years ago.   LOL  They wouldn't let me near

Reading the NJ State URL mentioned by John Dilks below, nothing mentions 
disabled vet or income ???means test??? for vets. Some states do test,

NJ used to/also may have a disability property tax exemption.

Received my NJ-1040 booklet last week and line 12c on the return is for 
the Veteran Exemption. On page 17 of the NJ-1040 booklet, it states the 
exemption is for vets honorably discharged by the last day of the tax 
year, no other requirements seem to be needed for "this" exemption 
except for a copy of your DD-214 to prove eligibility the 1st time you 
file. The exemption is for $3000, $6000 if both spouses are vets!

Makes NJ stand out (in a good way for once) from many other states. Now, 
if we can get our Homestead rebates up to date (it's still one year 
behind thanks to Gov Potty Mouth) things will be a little bit better in NJ.

Hi Ray,


    What I wouldn't give for a Green Brook Electronics quality store up here in Maine.  The closest thing I've found is H & R Distributors in Portland.  It's about 1/3rd the size of Green Brook.  For me, at least mail order is cheaper than the price of gas and NJ sales tax.


    I just hope they don't slick it up or downsize.  I seemed to be able to find just what I needed at Green Brook.

 About 10 or 12 years ago they had a case of Nixie tube sockets for 10 cents for each socket. I bought about 200 of them and the next day when I went to buy more they were if I remember correctly $2.50 each...

Years later the box was still there, I think I was the last guy who bought them...

Vincent Lobosco Fanwood resident volunteered with town's rescue squad, 74.
Vincent E. Lobosco, 74, of Fanwood, N.J., died on Saturday at Overlook
Medical Center in Summit, N.J. Family will receive relatives and friends on
Thursday morning, Jan. 18, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home, 1937
Westfield Ave., Scotch Plains, N.J. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30
a.m. at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Scotch Plains. Interment is at
Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Vincent worked at Lockheed Martin for
many years and was a volunteer with the Fanwood Rescue Squad. He was an
active member of St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, and was
in numerous radio clubs in the area. Vincent is survived by a niece, a
sister-in-law, and a number of cousins.

Hi Al,


    I have a pole transformer 300' from my house here in Maine that's singing like a canary.  I'm trying to verify it's the only one that's doing it before I call the power co.  It's worse on HF.  
    BC DX is a little different here in Maine.  I'm picking up most of the French stations in Quebec, yet I can still hear some of the Spanish stations from your area on south.  The wild thing was back in December, I was picking up 1210 WPHT out of Philly during the day.   Not in the summer, though.


    I'll see if I can get to it and send you a DX report from a DX station.

I'm having a problem with a Philco 39-45 Output Transformer.  With no tubes in, using an audio generator or VOM, I can get a test signal through one side (audible), but not the other. This is from the plate of one of the 42's to grid.  It won't work on the the other side.  The grid is the center tap.  I should hear a signal though both sides, correct?  When I power it up I get no audio or hum at all.   


 Am I missing something, or is this transformer not working correctly?  The schematic is attached.

Joe,

Sounds like an open winding on the transformer primary.? Per the 
schematic, you should measure 300 ohms between pins 2 and 3 of each 42 tube.

     Many of you may remember an ?online store? that had all kinds of parts and stuff for building projects, Ocean State Electronics.   It shut down a couple of years ago much to my dismay.

     Well here is an update:   I just bought some #10 fiber washers on ebay.   The received package included the attached letter, from the proprietor, Frank Pellicano, WB1GTK, at ?DBA Atlantic Electro?, Westerly, RI. Our own Abe Deihl won the hotly contested "D" category in this years 
NJARC BCB DX Contest.Abe had a total score, for his ten most distant 
stations, of 10,115 miles.He managed to snag XEQ in Mexico City, a 
distance of 2055 miles, on his Philco 42-390 using the internal loop.

The contest was held February 19^th through 28^th .A total of thirteen 
logs were submitted by seven contestants. A great time was had by 
all.The committee is hoping for increased participation next year.
