FYI, especially Aaron, Ray, and others involved in documentary
preservation at InfoAge:
The Society of American Archivists (SAA) to the rescue! A new pilot
project offers free basic archives workshops to non-professionals
volunteering or working for organizations that cannot afford to hire
professional archivists. The drive behind this effort is to help small
organizations and local communities to preserve and make accessible
their archival records that are hidden due to a lack of access to
information on preservation and archival practice.
Five New Jersey sites have been selected for the pilot project -
Plainfield, Trenton, Atlantic City, Chester and Newark.
The workshops cover topics including basic preservation, photographs,
record processing, archival description, and digitization and are
limited to 10 participants.
Act Now! Registration begins August 3rd. For more information about
workshop dates and topics for each location, contact Debra Schiff at
debra.schiff at gmail.com.
