Hi Everyone
As you know, the RTM has a working Theremin.
I just got a note from the Austrian Cultural Foundation
In New York that they are going to have a Theremin concert in May.
You can see more about it in the note below.
You may want to go and see the concert. It might just incent you to take up the Theremin.
For your info, there is also a very good restaurant right across from the Foundation on 52nd street. It’s called the Fig and the Olive. Great food and Atmosphere if you are looking to eat before the concert.
Best wishes.
Bob

> The Austrian Cultural Forum New York is hosting a workshop for creatives and entrepreneurs, celebrating the launching of Doris Rothauer's book Vision & Strategy - Strategic Thinking for Creative and Social Entrepreneurs (Birkhäuser, 2018). In his groundbreaking 1970s book Design for the Real World, the Austrian designer Victor Papanek, who emigrated to the United States in 1939, argued for the designer´s responsibility in shaping our economy and society by designing for the good. His claim for social and ecological awareness is more topical than ever. Designers and other creatives are an important part of the "Change Maker" movement who can contribute with impactful strategies to a better world. But how to develop these strategies and, at the same time, make it work as a business and for business? Topics covered in the workshop include best practice examples of social design, introduction into strategic thinking based on visions, and tools & methods from social entrepreneurship and impact business modelling. Participation is free, however, due to a maximum of 20 participants, priority will be given to designers, creatives, and industry representatives.

> PAMELIA STICKNEY ON TOUR
>
> WEDNESDAY MAY 09 - SUNDAY MAY 20
>
> This May, the world-renowned American-Austrian Thereminist Pamelia Stickney will be back on tour in the US! You can see her perform solo as well as together with other inspiring local artists in New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and other east coast cities. "The Theremin isn't an instrument that lends itself to hero worship, but ever since we saw Pamelia pluck an astonishing walking bass line out of thin air in the documentary Moog, we've been genuflecting with reckless abandon. Novelty value aside, [her] gift on her wonky instrument is profound and generous. She's based in Vienna now, so you won't want to miss this relatively rare local date." (TimeOut New York)

> PANORAMA EUROPE FILM FESTIVAL: "THE DREAMED ONES"
>
> SUNDAY MAY 13, 07:00 PM
>
> As a part of the 10th anniversary of the Panorama Europe Film Festival 2018, we are pleased to present the screening of THE DREAMED ONES (Die Geträumten) directed by Austrian filmmaker Ruth Beckermann at the Museum of the Moving Image. A passionate, doomed literary love affair is brought to life in this inventive, one-of-a-kind meta-romance. Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan were two giants of postwar German-language poetry whose unlikely affair (he was the son of Jewish Holocaust victims, she the daughter of a Nazi) lasted only months but sparked hundreds of letters exchanged over the course of decades-documents of two brilliant minds working through heady questions of art, postwar guilt, and politics, as well as their own complex feelings for one another. Their soul-baring correspondence is related via two magnetic actors who, in channeling the writers, discover their own spark of attraction---a continuation of a love story that resonates across decades.

> MANFRED BOCKELMANN: DRAWING AGAINST OBLIVION
>
> WEDNESDAY MAY 23, 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM
>
> The Austrian Cultural Forum New York (ACFNY) is pleased to announce its upcoming special exhibition Drawing Against Oblivion in the framework of the Austrian Commemoration Year 2018. From May 23 to June 15, Austrian artist Manfred Bockelmann shows a selection of his large-scale charcoal portraits of children and adolescents who fell victim to Nazi terror. With these works, Bockelmann seeks to create "signposts against forgetting." He desires to "give faces to at least a few names and numbers, lifting a few individuals out of the anonymity of statistics." The exhibition opening features a screening of the documentary Drawing Against Oblivion (2015), which narrates the development of the not-for-profit exhibition project. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the artist and remarks by Dr. Carol Rittner, Distinguished Professor of Holocaust & Genocide Studies Emerita & the Dr. Marsha Raticoff Grossman Professor of Holocaust Studies Emerita at Stockton University (New Jersey, USA).
