[NJARC] Dual conversion superheterodyne

Still thinking about Al's Broadcaster article on the RME company.  His postscript on the image problem got me thinking.  Does anyone know who produced the first commercial dual (second) conversion superhet?  I assume that either AT&T or RCA first used dual conversion receivers for their transatlantic networks but which manufacturer first offered it to the public as either a kit or complete receiver and what year?Jim
