[NJARC] Accidental DX'ing in a Hyundai

Hello - just my "two cents" on the subject. The newer vehicles with their "info-trainment" systems are very good choices for DXing on the road. (Cars really don't have radios anymore...) I do find the challenge is finding "quiet" areas to enjoy listening. Open highways seem the best, while urban areas pose quite another issue - that of power/data line interference. An example: when I drive to the club meeting in Princeton I pass through Doylestown and New Hope areas. AM reception through these areas is almost non-existent! - just pure noise! As I continue the drive through Lambertville toward Hopewell reception becomes almost crystal clear. I've noticed the number of power/data lines on the poles along the road between New Hope and Doylestown and can firmly place the blame for poor reception on them. (Actually, I don't know how the poles can support that many cables.) The same holds true on my drive to InfoAge. Once outside the urban environment, reception improves greatly. Oh, one other area I found to be an annoyance - railroad crossings. As many data lines are run along the railroad "right of way," the rails themselves act as antennae for radiating the interference. All railroads seem to be subject to this. Whether it be data lines or railroad signal lines, there's a lot of interference. I guess this is the price we have to pay for our dependence on the Internet?
