I'll give it a closer look and see which version I have, but if memory serves, my power supply has the terminals exposed on the front (or perhaps back) of the supply, versus inside which would be much safer.  I'm almost certain of that fact because I recall thinking how dangerous it would be and how if I were to use it I would want to cover up the terminals.  The set and the power supply are still wired together, so I've been carrying it around together when I move it.  It will no doubt need to have the wires gone through as there are minor holes and kinks in the insulation all over.


I'll keep my eye out for cabinets that will fit.

The 36 uses a model 33 or 49 cabinet; the 30 is too small. You can always recognize a 33 or 49  since they have that little knob on the left end of the front panel.  The 36 is just an updated 33.

There are two versions of the 36. The early and scarce version has a power supply with the terminals on the outside of the case while the later version has the terminals inside the case.  Also, the early version front panel looks identical to all previous battery sets with the exception of a toggle switch located below the two rheostats on the front panel bakelite rheostat assembly.  Later versions have the toggle switch on the metal front panel and a single knob for volume on an otherwise blank piece of bakelite .

The late 36 isn't especially rare and both versions are easy to recap without getting into the supply tar.  If you have the early version it would be worth it to restore up to a point. I can't give a ballpark value for either version.

The audio transformers should be OK; its only the Model 20, 21, and earlier that had that problem. The biggest problem is broken wires at the end of the power interconnect cable; they allowed no stress relief on the wires at the board. Otherwise they are very easy to work on.

All,

I picked up an AK model 36 with matching power supply a few months ago that was destined for the dump.  It has no wooden case, and the model Y supply is missing the cap.  Tubes were pulled, but I think I have some for it.

I don't know much about these sets to know if what I have is worth restoring, or how easy it will be to find the missing parts.  Are the wooden boxes the same as similar sized sets (AK30, etc?) or are they an entirely different animal.

I kind of like the idea of getting this one running since I don't need to build\buy an eliminator, and the tubes are cheaper than '01As.  On the other hand, it's pretty rough.

Just curious on thoughts on whether this one's worth fixing or if I should let it go as parts to someone else who might be able to use it.
