That gaudy green is enough to make me puke. Green doesn't even belong on a 10B!

Took on an Atwater Kent to repair.

Complaint was that it was dead, the tubes didn't light up.  Turned out 
to be simply a wire in the power supply (A-) disconnected due to a cold 
solder joint.

Here's the blasphemy - the guy only uses it to play MP3s from his 
iPod/iPad!  (audio fed directly into the audio amp)  Additionally, he 
paid someone $$$ to "restore" it.  The RF transformers were re-wound 
with enamel covered solid wire.  I tried the set to see if it would 
receive, but even with a 40' wire all I got was oscillation, almost like 
a regen.

He told me he paid "about" $1000, and then paid for the restoration.

It's got all brass based 301s or 201s (no 200 for the detector). Also, 
it looks like the coveted paper label on the bottom is a reproduction.

The speaker is a Burns.

And another thing...........he also gave me an AK Model 80 cathedral, 
also dead, that he uses to play MP3s. (He paid $850 for that).

Go figure.
