[NJARC] A Little Serendipity

  Folks,

I've been setting up equipment for an IEEE video shoot next week. (Alex
Magoun thought they should see 1920's radios in a 1920'ish living room.)

One of the stars is the RTM's Westinghouse RC ca. 1921.

I'd modified this set so it would works well with 201A tubes.
(Unfortunately, I couldn't use the original knobs with the new
higher-resistance rheostats.) I got to thinking about the little
screened window present on many of the early radios. This was intended
to allow the operator to observe how brightly he was burning the tubes,
but the heavy silver gettering in the '01A's make this almost impossible.

Then I remembered I had one brass-based tipped 201 that I received in
the Christmas gift exchange. No guts - no glory! I plugged it in and
it works.

The best part was seeing the old fashioned RCA "Radio Corporation" logo
on the tube in use.

A short video here <http://www.ar88.net/stuff/RC_Window.m4v>.

Do enjoy,
Al
