Joe -
I’ve had moderate success with dull bakelite. Take some really thin oil like 3 in 1, or sewing machine oil and wipe it on with a soft cloth and apply it to the area. Let it soak (the longer the better). After a few hours (or longer) wipe the oil off the surface and buff. Much of the color and shine should come back. Try on a remote area first.

There are no soft spots on the case and no cracks. I've been working with various plastic cleaners including Novus. Recently I tried Brasso with no real improvement. I am getting it to a little better than a satin finish. I have a small area that shows that the cabinet originally had a high gloss finish.
