I have been collecting Radicon coherer remote toys for years and have about
20 or so. Have lots of buses, a couple of boats, sedans and tanks. I believe
the only one I do not have in the line is the robot. Figured one day it
would make for a good article. They do work amazingly well. It is indeed
interesting that the Japanese utilized coherer receivers and spark
transmitters in remote control toys almost 50 years after the coherer became
obsolete. It is interesting that during the few years that they were made,
the transmitters went through several design changes, however the basic
coherer receiver remained the same. The transmitters started out with simple
push button spark coils and eventually evolved to a piezo spark generator.
