One of those stations is WMTR in Cedar Knolls. It used to be the classic old-time local station until it was sold a while back. Now, it plays oldies and is pretty generic. These outfits that own a pile of stations have, in my opinion, destroyed AM radio. I loved all those old idiosyncratic, locally owned stations of the past with announcers, newscasters and disk jockeys who became part of the community and with ads for small local businesses. In the early mornings on snowy days, we used to sit transfixed listening to WMTR to see if our school was closed.
