RichI don't have a MFJ-956 antenna tuner but I do have a MFJ-901 tuner that is surplus to my needs.  You can go to the MFJ website and compare the two tuner datasheets.  
In a nutshell, the 956 is a series LC tuner for matching a receiver to an antenna and the 901 is a pi network for matching a transmitter to an antenna.  It also has a built in 1:4 balun and will handle a transmitter of up to 200 watts output.  
Probably the 901 is overkill for your needs but it is the same physical size as the 956 and much more robust.Jim
