(Drawing from: http://www.mif.pg.gda.pl/homepages/frank/vs.html Book mark it! It's easier than getting up to get a book off the shelf.) For your purposes, a speaker and output transformer from an All-American Five will work just fine. The transformer primary will be more like 10,000 ohms, but impedance matching is like horse shoes and hand grenades. It was built for a short time but very little is know about it. He won't except less than $100 for it. I ?am selling it for him?as a friend and will not make anything if there is a sale. Maybe someone can offer some assistance with a problem I am having. >> While doing an FM alignment on my Heathkit AR-29 stereo receiver (I had to ?fix? something that was working!), the FM gradually died out. First the adjustments had no effect, then the stereo light stayed on, then it died, and finally the entire FM went dead. Voltage measurements showed that the 12 VDC, which powers the FM circuitry, was about 2 volts. The 12 VDC powers the AM/FM board, multiplex board, and the tuner. If all of these are removed I get 12.4 VDC. If any one of these is installed, the 12 volts drops to about 2. Transistors Q4, Q5, and Q6 regulate the 12 VDC. These all check out good (using an ohm meter). Resistors R7,8,9,11,12,and 13 all check out good too. All of the caps are brand new. The 50 VDC, B+, and B- voltages are good, and aren?t affected by whether or not the FM is powered. When unloaded, all voltages on the power supply board are good. When any one of the FM boards or the tuner is connected, I get: >> Q6 emitter - very low, about 2 >> Q5 base - very high, about 33.8 >> Q4 base - very low, 1.5 >> It seams to me that the power supply makes 12 volts, but can not maintain it with a load. >> The schematic and power supply description are attached. >> Any guidance is appreciated. >> Stephen Cafiero >> >> -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Didn't really want another console as they're not really my thing, but I couldn't let it meet such a fate. Allot of dust, looks like original tubes. Apparently not one of their high end models, 8 tubes, single ended 6F6 output and no Wavemagnet. The cabinet is in fair shape, no peeling veneer, just the usual surface cracks on the top. Some of the radiogran labels are missing. The best part was that there was an envelope inside the cabinet, containing an original Zenith service manual for all 1939 receivers. The envelope, with 4 cents postage, is postmarked June 10, 1943, from Zenith Radio Corp., Dickens Ave., Chicago, addressed to Moser's Piano House, Annandale, NJ. So, if anyone needs schematic(s) and alignment instructions for any of these models, let me know and I will scan it. The illustrations are much clearer than any Riders or Beitman's that I've found on the internet. Thanks, Bill -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Williams Library at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken. Unfortunately we couldn't retrieve RCA Victor's first 45 record, but the library staff have been pretty excited by the display. They just posted a blog post: http://stevenslibrary.blogspot.com/. The exhibit will be up at least until early January, and the library is open 7 days a week. Parking is a challenge ( https://www.stevens.edu/sit/maps/parking.cfm), but there's always the pleasant kilometer walk along the riverfront from the stunning PATH/NJT station, formerly the terminus for the Lackawanna RR, built in 1907. You'll have to sign in at the library front desk but just tell them you're there to see the distant ancestor of smartphone music players! Alex ~~~ Alexander B.
