Alex,
The Atwater-Kent "E" series cone speakers didn't sound particularly all that great. High Fidelity didn't come to the broadcast world for another 7-8 years after they were made. They were the first generation Atwater Kent speaker after the horns so I guess they were an improvement over the horn speakers; but not by much.
Just IMHO......
