If you attended the meeting last night, hopefully you had a chance to do a
bit of DXing on the radios that were there. My favorite was the crystal
set that was among the radios set up and fed with an antenna signal via an
elaborate distribution network. I've been monkeying around with crystal
sets for over fifty years, but the ability to tune through perhaps a
half-dozen stations last night eclipsed any of my previous experiences. It
was impressive! Testimony perhaps to the performance of that particular
set and/or the antenna and/or the relative quietness of the rf noise
environment in InfoAge's neck of the woods? Or perhaps just the ghost of
Marconi smiling favorably on us last night?
If you missed the opportunity to play around with the sets, you might want
to make an effort to participate in the club's DX Contest
<http://njarc.org/#calendar> or try to attend the DXPedition next year.
A big "thank you" to Al Klase for setting up the antennas and radios prior
to the meeting.
