[NJARC] AK help needed

I took on a repair of an AK Type L chassis TRF with both electrical and 
mechanical problems.

The electrical problem is hum, which I did not delve into yet.

The mechanical problem is a slipping tuning indicator.  The variable cap 
shaft has a gear attached with teeth on about one half of its 
circumference.  The teeth of the gear  (on this radio) mesh with tape on 
the tuning shaft.  Obviously not good engineering as the tape is all 
chewed up (no pun intended).  I haven't taken the tape off yet, as I 
just received the set today.  There may be matching teeth on the shaft.  
Anyone have experience with this problem? Thanks
