Hello Walter,
Start with our restoration videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OYw2wfdSCs There are three parts.
Then, let us know if you have specific questions. You'll want to round up schematic diagrams for the equipment, and you'll need some sort of multi-meter. The cheap ones from Harbor Freight are better than nothing.

Al

Hello my name is Walter, I am a soon to be member, looking for someone that is willing to tutor me in the repair of vintage tube gear. I am not a dummy but definitely need help with some of the basics. I am in the process of gathering the necessary tools and test equipment.I have a project already waiting to be worked on, a Shell electronics stereo 20 wpc amplifier (and at least 5 other prices I acquired at an estate sale waiting in the que.) It works but one channel is really low and one of the tubes is overheating in that channel. Not really sure where to go from here with it. I was going to recap it but I'm not sure if I should try to fix the issue first, or hope recapping will take care of it?
Anyway back to the original topic, anyone want to teach a new guy to work on this fantastic technology from our past? I am currently not employed so I am available anytime to meet up.
