[NJARC] Help with Hallicrafters Paint

Greetings from Maine,

I've taken on restoring a Hallicrafters SX-42 that I picked up.
Fortunately, it's in pretty good condition in all regards. It does need the be
recapped, and a good cleaning, but otherwise, that's it. This SX-42 looks
very good on the outside. The inside has the usual crud on the chassis.

One thing I would like to restore is the paint on the Band Spread
Bezel. The paint on it is flaking off. Depending on the version that was
manufactured, the bandspread bezel was either black or the color of the front
panel. From what I've been able to find, the front panel was either a light
blue or a shade of olive drab and with some brown mixed in. This is not
your typical off the shelf color.

Of course the front panel I have is the olive drab - brown with the
bezel the same color. The purest in me wants to restore the bezel to the
original color. Can anyone offer any thoughts on how I might be able to
replicate this color? Unfortunately, I don't have Kuker-Haney (
http://kuckerhaneypaint.com/sb.cn ) close by to make me a can of spray paint.

This radio is probably in the middle of the production run with the
following found on the radio: Serial HA-68218 and on the back of the front
panel is a date code: 45 DEC 20 1948? The 8 wasn't pressed onto the panel
completely.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what to do? Cosmetically there isn't
much I need to do other than this and clean the chassis.

Thanks.
Joe Devonshire
