Radio is near perfect.
Tom was a local radio pioneer..... copied Titanic survivor Passenger list for Mr. Wanamaker. Was probably the first ham in Philadelphia, started experimenting pre 1900.
"I organized the Appleby Radio Corporation,
opened a small factory in West Philadelphia
and designed and put on the market the first
radiophone receiver with a single tuning dial.
All other receivers at that time employed at
least three tuning dials. My receiver was soon
copied by others and in those hectic days of
“obsoleteness over night” it was impossible
for us to keep up with the competition of the
larger companies and I sold the business to
J. H. McCullough & Co., on north Broad
Street who, in the days of the horse were in
the harness business, and then the automotive
business and finally radio sales, service and
manufacturing."
